Lithium Ion: The Lithium Ion is available with a number of benefits that include quick charge time, has longer life, steady discharge, light weight and small in size. It offers more charge facility than NiCds, and does not suffer from memory effect.

I am looking to buy a new laptop. How good is the Sony Vaio NS11J/S? I have heard the battery is not great.?

Was also looking at the samsung Q210 and asus x71sl. They are all similar in price. What would you recommend? mainly just for everyday use at home. won't be used for any business purposes.

No worries on the battery thing, because unfortunately laptop batteries suck full stop, they don't last all that long as they deteriorate over the span of their life quite rapidly.

Secondly,

The viao laptops are of exceptionally good build quality but can lack in the power department, that's a label thing really, you pay for the label with most sony products. Samsung, aren't exactly major players in the base unit industry, they make far better cameras and individual parts as opposed to computers themselves.. Asus are a huge player in the high end power market, a solid choice for performance and gaming, production development etc

Really, steer clear of those categories as it's not really what you are looking for, i'd look more into the HP/Compaq alley, the build quality is superb, the performance is great and they are very affordable, do check PCWorld out, as they sell a number of excellent laptops at very good prices you probably wouldn't find elsewhere.. but don't bother with PCworld for anything else. Make sure you ask them to leave out all the crap they bundle in with the deal, as that can actually bring the total down by about £150.
