How come my computer works on some wireless networks and not on others?

My laptop works at home, but not at work. Two different isp's
When I use limewire or ares to download music the connection works fine, but when I open IE or Foxfire it tries to connect but ends up with "Page cannot be displayed."

It's got nothing to do with ISPs.

What you can do is, next time you're at work, click on your Wireless Network Connection icon. Then, View Available Wireless Networks.

If there is another "Available" (meaning unsecured in this case), you'll be able to connect to it.

Highlight it and connect.

You might want to adjust, Change the Order of Preferred Networks. Your NIC is still trying to lock on to the most powerful signal it sees and if that one is not available, it won't be able to connect, unless you manually choose to connect to an Unsecured network.

You'll see that with Vista this works a little differently. When Vista doesn't see a "Preferred" network, but does see another, it will ask you what you want to do about it.
