Is a 500MHz PowerPC processor any good?

I might buy this apple ibook and it has 1GB ram and a 500MHz processor speed, what would this compare to if it was being compared to intel or amd? Is it as good as a 2.9GHz single-core pentium 4?
well, it is an ibook, so there supposed to be faster than a windows based computer, i just don't know how much faster. I understand that my computer currently is about 6 times faster than the ibook, but it is windows based unlike the ibook.

The last time a PowerPC processor was used was in 2006, so the minimum age of the laptop in question is 3 years. Is that too old? Maybe not. It's certainly not off the table!

Sounds like you might be referring to a PowerPC G4 7400, which was the first of the line in 1999.

I can't speak to performance, though -- never owned one. It might be a little old, but it might be a decent buy if the price is right.
