do i need more thermal grease to put on the duo core 2 chip?

ok i just got this intel duo 2 core motherboard combo.
my ram should be on it's way any time now, but i opened up the cpu box and it comes with a heat sink. on the bottom of the heat sink are 3 grey strips that i'm presuming are the alternative to the thermal grease. do i need more than just the stock 3 strips? anyone have any experience with this? what happens if i do apply more thermal grease?
