Laptop Wireless Connection for Your Computer

In the case of wireless connectivity to an office network from a laptop, wireless LAN on the laptop connects to a wireless office network through the internal antenna of an onboard integrated wireless LAN if so available on the laptop or alternatively through the antenna on the wireless LAN card if so available and inserted on the PCMCIA slot of a laptop.

Wireless LAN antennas are wireless LAN antennas - you don't need a special one for N, and Linksys makes gain antennas. But if the users are above or below the router (as opposed to being on the same floor), aim the antennas at the users - make them horizontal. These antennas "fire" off the sides, and have very little reception and transmission off the ends, which is probably how you currently have them working - in a vertical position.

If you're in a steel frame building, you have another problem - just as light, no matter how bright, can't penetrate steel, neither can radio waves. The building isn't solid steel, but it still attenuates the signal when the signal has to pass a few layers of steel grid. Ig that's your situation I'd suggest hiring a professional - at very least you'll have to install a few repeaters, but you'll probably end up needing to run cable, and that's not a job for an amateur in a steel frame building.
