Keep in mind, however, that not all programs (or games, for gamers out there) support dual-core yet, so for some it may not be the best investment. For those looking for power, however, you can’t go wrong with a dual core. There are also Quad Core processors available, but they are still much more expensive than the average dual. The Cache is essentially a buffer between the Processor and your RAM (which runs at slower speeds), so the faster your Cache is, the faster your laptop will run. /p>

In the current economy, price is likely a huge factor for any consumer. Just remember these simple facts about processors and don’t let the higher price of some processors fool you, when in fact they may only be .2 or .3 GHz faster than the lesser chip for over double the price! To bust your misconception of what GHz really are: understand this. Hz just means "per second" and Hz on a processor just define the number of cycles the processor performs a second. (3.0GHz = 3 billion cycles a second). However, what the processor actually does in those cycles isn't nearly as straight forward. For example, the Pentium 4 might spend 20 cycles doing a simple "add" operation, while the quad-core would do the same operation in 1 cycle (I made up all these numbers, but it gets the point across).
