this hdd. i cant even access the files through safemode.. very important . is there any way i can recover the files after a format? i will use an xp bootable or a linux redhat bootable.. either.. whether one is better for this.. you tell me. thanks

if your hard drive is really hosed up and those docs or files are really important you could try buying a new hard drive making it the master then load an operating system on it then set the other hard drive as the slave. then you should be able to access your files . hard drives are pretty cheap now. so depending on how important those files are i would try this.
