My computer keyboard doesn't work, and a replacement didn't work either?

My desktop computer keyboard doesn't work (on a different computer than this one). I can not enter letters or numbers into Notepad, Word, Excel, or the browser command line. The mouse is OK. I unplugged and replugged. I got another keyboard, with the same result. Is this a motherboard or port problem, and what might that cost? Would a wireless keyboard solve the problem? Any other suggestions? Thank you.

If the keyboard that is not working is connected to the system via a PS2 port, I would try one that connects via USB.
