Here are some more information for Laptop Core:

How to Buy Laptop
before buying new laptop everyone should consider below thing. thats will make your search easy
Processor Available in the Market:
Medium Laptops :Intel Core 2 Duo T7200/7300
Light Laptops :Intel Core 2 Duo L7400/7500
Ultra-Light Laptops : Intel Core 2 Duo U7600
Intel's Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors have helped notebooks gain ground in the power department. In our tests, notebooks using these dual-core processors performed considerably faster than notebooks using single-core processors. Some notebooks use AMD's Athlon Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor, which also supports for improved performance.
RAM : Some of vendors giving RAM up to 4GB that is considerably very good. As it is also depend on person requirement. If your going to using Windows Vista 1GB RAM is recommended. In my laptop i am using 2GB RAM it is giving very good performance. Also check whether memory is can be upgraded or not and how it can support. In future if you want to increase the memory it should be supported.
Drives : How much storage space will you need? Hard drives are fairly straight forward in terms of the size and the performance may be impacted by the rotational speed. Optical drives play a more important role when purchasing a notebook PC. These can either be fairly simple CD-ROM drives for installing software all the way up to the latest high definition DVD burners. In most cases, notebook computers now come standard with a dual layer DVD burner. HD-DVD and Bluray are starting to show up, but still extremely expensive. Now up to 160 GB and 240 GB HD are also available in the market. Atleast 160 Gb 5400 RPM HD is recommended.
Battery : Battery is the life of Laptop, Lithium Ion battery with max. cells and additional component battery these batteries range in quality; batteries with a high milliampere and high voltage measurements are best. These are generally good, safe and secure. . Also confirm battery backup how long it support. 6 lithium ion battery can support up to 5 hrs in power saving mode.Laptop using a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor have averaged roughly 3.5 hours of life on one battery.
Weight and Size : These light weight laptop are easily available in the market but it also depend your requirement.if you are taking it outside your house often then should go to a thinner, lighter laptop that will fit into your bag or briefcase easily.if your laptop is going to stay in your room most of the time, you might want to consider investing in a laptop that has more features; it'll be bulkier, but it will be packed with each and everything you need.
Size : The most common screen sizes on laptops are 12.1, 13.3, and 14.4 inches Again, a tiny screen is appropriate for frequent travelers, but it'd be ideal to have a larger screen if it’s convenient and you do not have to move around much.
Graphic Card : You'll want 128MB of dedicated video RAM. Make sure that the memory is dedicated for graphics use, rather than being pulled from main memory (the latter arrangement is usually referred to as shared memory or as dynamic video memory technology). Gamers should look for advanced 3D graphics chips, such as nVidia's GeForce Go 7900 GTX, along with 256MB to 512MB of dedicated graphics memory.
Warranty Plans : Should get details about warranty plans what will be cover in it because it is not easy get repair the laptop. Dell has offered me good warranty plan it is covered in replacement warranty up to 1 year for that i payed 900 Rs extra that safe guard the laptop.
To check the latest configuration must go to http://www.dell.com/ there you can also customized the laptop as per your requirement along with cost of the laptop
Best laptop to Buy:
1. Sony vaio : look wise and perfomance wise good
2. HP : provide best hardware in the market with good service
3. Dell : Cost and performance wise good. there onsite service is also good

How to turn off one core of a duo core dell laptop?
I recently got an inspiron 1521, and as with all laptops, power can be a problem.
Is there a way to turn off a core and run as a single core system to conserve power on the go? I don't see the need to use both cores for surfing the web etc.
I would prefer a way to do it using my OS (vista home premium), or is there only a way to do it via BIOS?
Thanks,
-Simba
Windows actually manage the usage of those 2 cores. No need to mess with them. Try reducing your screen's brightness but high contrast. You may be able to conserve battery power that way.
