My left speaker makes a buzzing noise even when muted.?

My left speaker (philips mms231) constantly makes a buzzing sound when the speaker is turned on. Even when muted it makes the sound. I have taken the speaker apart but have no idea what to do.
How can I stop it from doing this?
Now it has stopped playing any sound exept the buzzing. Is there anyway to fix it or do i need to buy a new one?

Grounding is the problem. Your speaker needs to have proper grounding wire. Usually this is done through the subwoofer which in turn is connected to your power outlet which in turn is grounded.

Or, switch the left speaker set and right speaker set of wires.
Or, switch off the sub-woofer.
Or, try changing the subwoofer to a different power outlet which has proper threeprong ground plug which should definitely be grounded to your house.
Or, take it to your friend's computer, connect it there - assuming he lives in a different house. If it corrects the problem you know your house is not properly grounded.
One of these must make a difference. If nothing works, your subwoofer is faulty or is of low quality. You just have to live with it.
