wireless question?

I have a wireless network at my house (g network). I have one computer that is hardwired the the router and one that is wireless. I have a 6meg dsl connection. The hardwired computer is getting excellent speed (5-6 megs) but my wireless computer is only getting 2-4 megs speed with excellent wireless signal. I have tweaked the Rwin and the MTU settings on both computers and I have also lowered the ecryption from 128bit to 40/64 bit. None of this has worked to get my wireless speed up. Does anyone have any ideas?
not the laptop, I've tried 4 different laptops with the same result and I've tried 3 different routers.
through put between the computers is great, I even turned off TCP/IP v6 because i thought the additional DNS search may be slowing it down but that did nothing.

part of your speed loss may be due to the overhead required for encrypting the wireless signal. i have heard reports of 30 -50% loss for the encryption algorithm. what about transfer rates between computers? If you get better transfer rates between computers than to the internet, there may be a problem with the wireless router interface.
