I've noticed with many CPU utilities that the speed of my AMD Turion 64 x2 1.6 Ghz processor fluctuates between 800 and 1600 Mhz every 10 seconds, and after much research, I think it may have to do with the power management of the processor/computer. Can anyone assist me on finding a way to make it stay at the maximum of 1600 Mhz? Thanks! Also, I should mention that this never happened on an older version of this model. I recently replaced my old one due to a manufacturing error, and now this is happening.
That's generally a bad idea, as it's like running your car with the pedal to the metal ALL the time. The processor will burn out faster, as it's generating more heat. You can change it in the Energy Saver settings of your control panel and change the settings to performance, but you'll notice decreased battery life, and probably decreased computer life.
