How do I get rid of the buzz heard from the internal microphone on my iMac?

I have an iMac PowerPC G3 running OS X 10.2 (if any of that matters) and whenever I try to record using my internal microphone, I get this buzzing noise that sounds like a swarm of bees. Am I stuck with this or is there a way to get it to go away?
