Does Quicktime Pro work with a regular camera that also includes video?

I am working on a project, and I was wondering if we could connect a regular camera with video setting to Quicktime Pro and edit it on there.

i have quick time pro and it lets you read of of camera video, you can split segments and convert it into .mov .avi .mp4 and so on. as far as i know it can pretty be as much use only if its about seperating videos and converting them to different video formats.
