I've looked at how much RAM / HDD it thinks I've got and it's more like 298GB and 1098mb. Is this a problem? I've checked what my PC at work thinks it's got, and it tells me accuractely, and this was ordered with 320GB HDD and 2GB ram, that's exactly what it says! Have I been diddled or am I just stoopid?
Your hard drive is exactly what it should be - but it has nothing to do with a restore partition, system files, virtual memory or any of that nonsense. The drive manufacturers count the Gigabytes differently than Windows does. To them, a GB is simply one billion bytes. But Windows counts bytes in a binary format - so 1024 Bytes is a KB, and 1024 KB is a MB, and 1024 MB is a GB. So in Windows, one GB is actually 1,073,741,824 bytes, rather than an even one billion bytes It does seem as though you have been shorted in the RAM department.
