How can i adjust my vista to use the upgraded ram?

When i formatted my computer the ram was 1GB, then i added 2GB of ram.
Should i reformat my computer so the vista can manage the ram automatically?
Im using laptop with intel 1.8 celeron.

First of all check if the RAM you are using is compatable with your computer. This can be done by visiting Crucial Memory's Website at www.crucial.com.

Second, Vista likes to use up lots of resources, so it will allocate a lot of RAM to itself. Also check your Video card settings and see how much it is allocating there.

Third, depending on what type of OS you have (32bit or 64bit) there is a limit to how much it can allocate. 32bit systems can't allocate more than 4GB of ram. 2^32 = 4.2GB

For me, I have XP Pro 32bit with 4GB of RAM but I only get 3.5GB useable ram after all the allocations.
