is hooking up a gaming console to a big screen bad for the tv?

i have heard people say that if you hook an xbox or any other gaming console to a big screen tv that it will damage the tv. is this true?

I don't think so. My uncle has a TV in his basement with an old nintendo NES hooked up to it and it's been plugged in ever since he got it when nintendo came out with it, and it works fine.
