Is there a way I can change the settings for the power button on my laptop computer?

My cat likes to jump on my desk and run across my computer, hitting the power button on my laptop on her way, turning my computer off while I'm in the middle of something. (Throwing my cat outside is not an option.)
Is there a way I can change the settings so that the power button has to be held down for a period of time in order to turn the computer off? I have a Dell.

yes.. you can change the power button setting on the control panel.

Go to control panel>go to power options>go to Advance Tab>on the second row where it say Power Button> you get an option on how the power button is being use. It give you an option to do Nothing when the power button is press, Ask me what to do, Stand by, Hibernate, or shut down. You must of have it on Shut down when Power Button is press.
