iPhone on Orange Means Goodbye to Outrageous Tariffs?
Since the Apple iPhone was released in 2007, O2 had exclusive rights to the device in the UK. For other network providers this meant that they weren’t allowed to sell or provide their customers with the iPhone. For consumers, this translated to having no other choice but to switch to O2 or to take out a second contract under the said provider if they really wanted to get their hands on the iPhone. However, with the new iPhone on Orange deal, things are about to change not only for the consumers, but for the entire mobile phone industry in the UK as well.
The Monopoly That Was
Although Apple made tons of profit with their UK sales, a lot still believe that they could have ended up getting more money had they chosen to go with multiple providers. The iPhone did have quite a following in the UK, but the problem was that a lot of other potential customers were put off by O2 themselves. It was either a problem with the company’s overpriced tariffs, or issues about their rather substandard service. This translated to a lot of lost customers not only for O2, but for Apple as well. Moreover, it goes beyond the actual profits they would gain from the iPhone itself. By failing to capture more customers, Apple was not able to establish an even bigger supporter base in the UK which they surely would have found great use of when it comes to their other products such as the iPod or the iMac.
Cheaper Rates?
And now that the iPhone monopoly is about to come to an end, there is one begging question that is yet to be answered – what does this mean for the consumer? Well, we believe that the break in the exclusivity will end up being a good thing for UK consumers. The most obvious reason behind this is the emergence of more options. That is, consumers will now have a choice whether they’d want to go with O2 or Orange should they have their sights set on obtaining an iPhone.
From One Monopoly to Another?
However, there are also rumours of an upcoming Orange and T-Mobile merger. If this is the case, then it is likely that we’re just moving from one monopoly to another. If this is true then Apple may have just made the most logical decision by teaming up with the future of the mobile industry in the UK. Although O2 may be the big dog right now, it’s definitely going to be outshined by the T-Mobile and Orange merger once the customer base of both companies are combined into one.
Moreover, it also follows that if this pushes through, Apple will most likely end up terminating their deal with O2 in order to create a new one with the new king of the industry. In the end, the iPhone on Orange deal might not turn out to be such good news after all. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Why can't my imac dv 2000 read the hard drive?
I replaced the logic board due to bad USB ports, and now I get the flashing question mark at startup. Here's the weird part. When I startup holding down the option key, I get a blue screen with a big padlock on the left, a password field in the middle, and a curved arrow button on the right. What happened? Help!
Sorry to disappoint you, but... perhaps you should buy a real computer (specifically, a PC). You may keep the imac for decoration - that's the best use for that toy.
