Petronas Twin Towers Kuala Lumpur

PETRONAS Twin Towers was official opened by Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohammad in 31 August 1999. Since that the towers become Kuala Lumpur landmarks and a symbol of Malaysia's social economy progress and achievement, it's also a symbol of aspiration and ambitions of Malaysia to become a develop country by year 2020. This twin building is a home for Malaysia Petroleum Company also known as Petroliam Nasional Berhad or PETRONAS. The idea to build this tower came from Malaysia 4th Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohammad that wanted the PETRONAS Twin Towers must be unique and can be recognizing as icon of Malaysia by people around the world like Eifel Tower in France or Great Wall in China.

Standing at 452 m (1483 feet), designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates from USA, the tower was built on the former horse racing track at Jalan Ampang, fully completed in 1997, PETRONAS twin towers became the highest twin building in the world on date of completion before the places been taking over by Taipei 101.

The design of PETRONAS Twin Towers using the simple Islamic geometric forms of two interlocking squares creating a shape of eight-pointed stars. Upon the eight-pointed stars, are eight superimposed semi-circles softening the inner angles. Architecturally, these forms reflect important Islamic principle of ‘unity within unity, harmony, stability and rationality, this reflection of Islam is Malaysia official religion.

The construction started on March 1993, the 88 floor tower was built largely using the strongest concrete ever made in Malaysia, concrete was use because its cheap and easily to get it in Malaysia compare with the steel. Each tower weight about 300,000 tons, to support the weight of each tower, the contractor has to build 4.5 meter raft foundation containing 13200 cubic meters of reinforced concrete, weight about 32,550 tones supported by 104 barrette pile varying from 60m to 115m length.

PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Bridges

The PETRONAS sky bridges height about 170 meters from street level, 58 meters long and weight about 750 tons is the higher double story bridges in the world. Its was built by Southern Korean Company Kukdong Engineering & Construction, located between the two tower on 41 and 42 floors. The main function this bridge is as escape route to another tower by crossing the sky bridges to another tower in case of emergency.

As a Kuala Lumpur landmarks and symbol, PETRONAS Sky Bridges become main attractions for a foreign tourist. Visitors are only allowed to visit at 41 floors while the 42 floor is reserve for tenant used.

Admission is free, approx 1500 tickets will be issuing daily, base on first come first served, you only can enter the bridge according to specific time stated on the tickets, each person is allowed to collect up to 5 ticket, you can choose what time you want to go.

how long does it take on average to put one together from scratch?

It doesn't take long at all if you work out a list of what you need and prepare. You need a case, preferrably with a couple case fans. Then a Power Supply generally a 450W or somewhere close will do. You need a motherboard, that you will need to work out which CPU you want to use, then choose your motherboard. The CPU Intel or AMD, then ram, which will depend upon the motherboard and the CPU as to what the motherboard will support... A hard drive, cd/dvd rom your choice but xp only needs a CD rom and vista needs DVDrom to install. Then you need a graphics set up, this will either be onboard which will be part of your motherboard selection as well, or a dedicated card. Onboard offers great performance if you do not plan to game or do any type of video editing. Dedicated is better, but you have to go along with the motherboard thing again and use the type of graphics card that your motherboard has a slot built on it...
All that along with your operating system of choice, which I would buy an OEM copy from newegg for $99, will total out your system basically... Now if you are needing all that plus monitor and keyboard and mouse then you are just going to have to bite the bullet and buy a prebuilt because you will come out cheaper with a store deal.
